Directory Submission vs. Article Submission - Which generates more links?

I will start with two domains that were created within minutes of each other, and both sites are similarly themed sites. I won't reveal them until the test is done because we don't want anyone monkeying with the results. I will try add results to this post on a weekly basis for the next 30 days.

For the directory submissions, I will be using the digiXMAS Directory Submitter, which is a semi-autonomous submission tool. I will similarly use the digiXMAS Article Submitter for article submissions. There are currently about 1500 directories in the directory submitter, and about 700 sites in the article submitter. I will submit to the full list of both tools.

My measurement of inbound links will be both those listed by Google in my Webmaster Tools account and those listed by Yahoo! Site Explorer. Traffic statistics will be provided solely by Google Analytics.

I will do my best to create 5 links with good anchor text and description as well as a high quality article so that neither site gets rejected simply because it appears to be spam. I will use plenty of good keywords however since I would like to see both domains get traffic!

At the end of the test I will not only reveal the sites, but also the article and the links used so that you can judge the over all methodology.
